Battling with trials and tribulations
JAMES 1:12
Blessed is the man who remains
steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown
of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
First of
all, I wanted to apologize for the lack of blog posts lately. I’ve been doing a
lot more ‘behind the scenes’ work with the Kingdom Ambassadors movement with
communicating with you guys via email/whatsapp etc. I took some time to focus on
my own walk with God and bringing myself back to where I needed to be
spiritually. I went through a season that I pretty much knew was coming but
never would have thought would have been so challenging. But of course, with
the mighty and all powerful God I serve, He has taught me a lot through that
season, exposing my weaknesses and testing my faith.
We all go
through dry seasons in our walk whether that be to do with work, relationships,
family or whatever else we have going on in our lives. We can often become demotivated
in our God-given purposes, we lack enthusiasm to serve God the way we used to
and engaging with God becomes a struggle as a whole. I was depending on my own knowledge
and was trying to do things through my own strength instead of the strength of
My Father (God). That is exactly what happened to me these last few months. It
became a reality that this ‘walk’ with Christ would not be all joy and ease consistently,
but instead it proved that through these trials and battles that I thought were
never going to end, God was moulding me to fit what is to come.
I referred
to James 1 – where it describes what our mentality as followers of Christ
should be. Any troubles that we’re facing, we should consider it pure joy. And
of course this is so much easier said than done, because in the moment we want
to throw a pity party asking God WHY this is all happening and we forget that
God left the Holy Spirit to instruct us especially in these times of confusion.
However, despite these emotions, we should use this season as a time to cling
to God and His word! Rejoice because this is the time that God will reveal
Himself to you as He comforts you when you pour out your worry to Him. You have
to fix your mind on the cross and be confident in Jesus’ saving hand that pulls
you through the waters of this world. When your faith is tested, your endurance
is built. God is able to protect you in His power, WHEN YOU HAVE FAITH. I came
to the realisation that after constantly saying ‘oh yeah Jesus I trust you! I
know you have control over my life’, I was being tested on these words and now
had the chance to show Jesus that I know what to do. I could show Him that my
dependency on Him is deeper than I thought it was, and that I would show Him
this through prayer. Allowing God to be my source of power and strength was
essential is keeping my focus on eternity and not the temporary struggles of
this world.
Wisdom
wisdom wisdom! Ask for it – request it from GOD through full faith in Him to
deliver. I had to get into the habit of humbling myself before God in this
season, because I had witnessed time and time again that leaning on my own
understanding was the reason I had ended up making a lot of these trials and
tests much harder for myself. Accepting that our knowledge is insufficient but
Jesus’ wisdom and peace surpasses all understanding, is what I learnt when
battling with relationships towards people. Each day, I learnt to pray for God’s
wisdom because I knew I couldn’t execute each day with my own power or limited knowledge.
Learning to ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit made sure that the grace
that covered me was the direction that Jesus wanted me to go in, not what I
planned for myself that day.
His word
speaks on God blessing those who endure PATIENTLY. The trust of your heart in
all areas of your life has to be developed on a completely different level when
you are being tested. Endure through each test knowing that God will bring you
through to the other side of the storm with a new character, a character that
has learnt something along the way. Be encouraged by the fact that God will
never give you a season that you cannot handle. So if you’re struggling in a
season where you may be feeling confused, doubtful, and burnt out or stressed;
focus on the goodness of God and not the battle of the storm. Let Christ be the
fortress and the comfort of your heart EVEN when you’re getting angry about why
these things are happening to you. Get yourself to the foot of the cross and
let Christ restore you.
‘’Sometimes God calms the storm but
sometimes God lets the storm rage and calms His child.’’
Some scripture to meditate on:
Exodus 14:44
The Lord will fight for
you, and you have only to be silent.
Romans 8:28
And we know that for
those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called
according to his purpose.
2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My
grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power
of Christ may rest upon me.
