YOUR WILL OR
MINE? {BLOCKING YOUR BLESSINGS}
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after
me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.’’

Luke 9:23
As Christians we
constantly pray for God’s grace and for the desires of our heart to be filled.
To a certain extent this is correct, and often what we have been trained to or
felt the need to do. However, so many times I have personally failed to
understand that a lot of times; I am the one that is stunting my own growth
with Christ. We regularly feel the urge for God’s blessings to be poured out on
our lives, but too often we neglect the submission required towards Him to
encounter what is TRULY right for our lives. In the midst of our own selfish
needs we begin to allow our yearnings to develop for things that are not in
line with Gods will or the blessings He has foreseen.
Submission to God
and His word is essential for us to thoroughly experience what our Heavenly
Father has in store for us. Too many times we get submerged in asking God for
what we want, and forget to come before Him surrendering ourselves each day.
When was the last time you said ‘’Father have your way in me?’’ Or are you just constantly pleading for what
you feel is necessary for you to be content?
In the Garden of
Gethsemane Jesus shows us an example of what to do when we truly desire to
allow God to move in our lives his way ; “Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you.
Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be
done, not mine.” {Mark 14:36} Notice at the end of Jesus’ prayer
to His Father He says ‘your will to be done, not mine’, genuinely highlighting
that despite the human emotion of fear and weakness that Jesus displays before
His arrest, He STILL submitted to Gods plan for what was to come. Jesus illustrates for
us the level of humility we must obtain as servants of His Kingdom, and not our
own earthly desires coming from our flesh.
Making our desires known to God is by no means wrong, and is
in fact a good thing and aids in developing an exclusive relationship with The
Lord, nonetheless the key is surrendering yourself to HIS will and not being
consumed with I WANT I WANT I WANT. YES He acts as our provider and YES He
listens to every call from your heart, but what God asks of His children is for
us to have that fire inside of you to be expectant on His grace because you are
confident that you are walking in obedience with HIS arrangement.
If we allow ourselves to hold onto things that are not for
us, we will be left there continuously asking God for the same thing or for the
situation to be changed, to a point of defeat where we feel that He is not
answering our prayers. So many times God has convicted me of the fact that I
regularly ignore the part of my prayer that is supposed to say ‘Oh and God what
do you want me to do?’ I refuse to sit and be STILL before The Lord because I’m
so absorbed in my own thirst for my own version of favor.
In the moments of frustration, or sometimes just simply asking
for Gods hand we forget to listen for His gentle voice of instruction. Don’t
allow yourself to be swallowed up in self -worship, but increase the amount of
times you ask God for the strength to obey what He has told you to do whether
that is to let go, to endure, to focus or to help. Are you willing to let go to
get?
In His own word, God promises
blessings and abundant grace on those who choose to obey Him and go forth in
action to surrender themselves to their own plans, and instead take up their
cross and endure with the plans of the Father. So if you’re sitting around
thinking ‘why isn’t God answering my prayer?’ examine if you have knelt before
Him asking if it’s His will. Dive into
prayer with the intention to seek His will for your life and watch how
different your view on life will be. You will be begin to be encouraged by His
spirit because you’ve cut off what is withholding blessings {your selfish
desires} and you’ve began to submit yourself to God’s grace and approval,
rather than craving what is not meant for you. He has the GREATEST plans to
prosper you, just rest and let Him.
Some scripture to
meditate on:
For whoever would save his life will lose it, but
whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.
