Being Set Apart For
Christ
As believers, we are taught to be set apart through what we
hear, but many of us fail to really understand what it means or how to do
it. Is it just posting Bible Scriptures
on social media pages or wearing Cross necklaces every day? NO! To
truly be set apart, we must be the ray of light in the midst of darkness.
What does it mean to
be set apart?
Matthew 5:16 (NIV):
‘In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your
good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.’
I was once told that a light bulb shines bright in all its
brilliance – no matter who walks into the room, it still continues to shine. This is exactly what we need to be doing as
children of God. In order for God’s will
to come to pass, we MUST be set apart. When
it comes down to it, we are only living for the approval of our Father.
Why should we be set
apart?
Colossians 3:2 (NIV): ‘Set
your minds on things above, not on earthly things.’
The Scripture above says it all. Too many of us forget that Earth is a
temporary thing, and our lack of patience leads to an obsession with immediate
gratification. We were created in God’s image;
therefore, we have to renew our minds in order to be Christ-like. Stop focusing on being accepted amongst your
peers, and start focusing on eternal life in Heaven. If you were told that Jesus is coming back
tomorrow, how would you choose to live the last 24 hours of your life?
What steps can we
take to be set apart?
Ephesians 6:11 (NIV): ‘Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the
devil’s schemes’
It’s very hard to be taken seriously if you’re not
‘practicing what you preach.’ How do you
expect to encourage somebody to live a
righteous lifestyle when you’re doing the complete opposite? Don’t get me wrong, we’re all going to fall short
at times, but we need to rise up and continue pushing! You do NOT have to become a part of this
world, just because you are living in it.
Put on the full armour of God to fight the good fight, and be steadfast
in the Lord!
Plus, Christians have fun too – there ain’t no party like a
Holy Ghost party! Ask God for grace and
start fresh today.
